Fired Over Facebook

After watching this story, I'm very surprised to learn that such simple, seemingly harmless comment got him fired. Especially for the fact that the employer mentioned that they cannot become in the middle of public issues, whether for or against - when the issue at hand was the man being against a shooting. The firing was, however, legal because companies are allowed to terminate employees based on their online activity. The term digital footprint refers to what is left behind by your activity online - whenever you post a picture, leave a comment, or like a post it could be shared all over the internet for all to see... forever. No, nothing you ever post online is really private no matter what you set your privacy settings to. I would have told him to post it, as I also saw nothing wrong with what he said.

This video doesn't involve online posts directly from the employee, but rather the employee's actions being posted online by the customer. I'm not as surprised to learn that this guy was fired, since he was somewhat rude but rather I'm more surprised that this video went viral enough to get him fired, since he didn't really do anything crazy in the video. The employer's reason for firing him wasn't included in the video, however I feel like it must have been because they felt he was being rude to the customer and didn't want that kind of attitude in their store. It was obviously legal, as companies are allowed to fire you if they feel you aren't properly attending to the customers.
